Our client is a qualified yoga teacher and would like to turn this into a career one. We have given this awkward shaped garden an Ibiza Hippy Chic vibe. A dark, cold space directly outside the kitchen has been turned into an inviting outdoor dining area where our client can entertain friends and family. Orange perspex screen add much needed privacy and warmth to the area and festoon lights above add party glamour to the space. The area is also made to feel part of the garden with planted containers. A open slatted screen acts as a divider to the rest of the garden making the outdoor space feel bigger. The floor is raised with decking. The step down creates a sense of journey in the garden.
The old bin area is now a cosy seating area with a cantilevered bench where the client’s teenage children can chillout. This area is also brought to life with low level planting and colourful scatter cushions on the bench. We have been sustainable by recycling the old patio slabs. A seating area has been designed with feature orange and pink tub chairs and a firepit. These are all easily moveable so that our client can roll out the yoga matt to practice downward dog. We have recycled some of the plants and maintained the holly, apple tree and cordyline. The lawn has been replaced with gravel and a plank path to the rear of the garden.
The planting border has been reshaped and planted with wildlife friendly plants that will also survive the salt coastal air that the garden experiences. A small water feature has been installed and rocks place here are there to give it a much more natural feel. We have merged the gravel with planting border by planting small grasses and creepers through the gaps between the planks.
The outhouses have been converted into a yoga studio where our client can one day teach yoga. The very rear of the garden can now be used to relax in. We have painted it up and stencilled mandalas on the walls, added fairy lights in the ceiling and prayer flags on the facia of the pitched roof. There is floor level lighting and subtle lights through the border.
An awkward space has now been transformed into an inviting garden for entertaining, relaxing and practicing yoga.
